Phase 1 of “Garforth’s Lightbulb Moment” project has now finished.
Jointly funded by Eco-Friendly Garforth and Ridge Road Energy Community Fund and supported by Peases of Garforth we organised events throughout October and November 2024 to allow the residents local to Garforth to exchange (for FREE) older and less efficient lightbulbs for new LED bulbs.
The events were:
Sunday 6th October, 2 to 4pm at the Garforth Repair Cafe, Miners’ Welfare Hall, Main Street.

Saturday 12th October, 10 to 11am at the Garforth Allotments “Potting Shed”, Church Gardens.

Saturday 19th October, 10 to 11am at the Garforth Community Garden, Lord Gascoigne, Aberford Road.

Saturday 26th October, 10 to 11am at the Garforth Allotments “Potting Shed”, Church Gardens.
Sunday 3rd November, 2 to 4pm at the Garforth Repair Cafe, Miners’ Welfare Hall, Main Street.
We exchanged about 220 bulbs with a combined wattage of over 5.7kW for new bulbs with a wattage of over 1.4kW. This is a reduction of 4.3kW or 75% on energy demand. For every hour that all these bulbs are used 700g CO2e are avoided and assuming that all the bulbs replaced were half way through their life, then an estimated 3.5 tonnes CO2e are avoided.
The chart below shows the breakdown by type and colour.
